Another GM draw against legendary Romanishin
Managed to finish the Najdorf Memorial on a good note, holding a draw with black against GM Oleg Romanishin thanks to some solid preparation (despite little time).
This result means I gain some elo from the tournament and I am quite happy with the finish given the possible low mental state after losing in the 5th round very clumsily and really missing a win for the 3rd time. The 5 out of 9 was quite solid and nobody else U-2400 got more points. Piotr Ngyuen however won the price with the best performance….well at least I hope so because if it was split I left 16 EUR behind in Poland 😉
My roommate Sigurbjorn had his worst tournament ever and lost in the last round in the longest game of the round after blundering away a virtually risk-free pressing advantage in an endgame. His tournament was so bad that he couldn’t bare to stick around in the tournament hall and we went to “eat the tournament away”. He then left on a bus to see his family which was staying elsewhere in Poland.
I was left by myself to have a look around the city some more which I quite enjoyed as the Saturday nights are quite lively in the old town. A lot of people walking around and usually something going on somewhere!
For now it’s time to head home and I can’t wait to start studying some more chess to get ready for my next tournament whenever that may be. Also given my current chess “mood” you can rest assure I will be making a lot of videos when I come home 🙂
Here is my game against Romanishin lightly annotated.
