Blackburne’s mate in action!
Blackburne’s mate is a cool mating pattern that I covered in one of my pattern recognition videos. At the time I didn’t know it was called that and called it Stefansson’s mate because of a beautiful execution he had of this pattern in a tournament game against Lazaro Bruzon (yes….same guy who was on the receiving end of the recent “Wei Yi immortal”).
Tonight I had the rare opportunity of executing this mate.
Playing against a 2100+ rated opponent on lichess.org he just moved his bishop from c5 to e7 seemingly attacking my knight on g5. Fortunately I had prepared an answer for that.
